Winning three races in succession, while stepping up in distance and class is never easy, but Pierro Lad made it look that way when scoring his first metropolitan victory at Canterbury on Wednesday.

The Ciaron Maher trained Pierro gelding racked up multiple placings last year, but couldn’t quite break through for that elusive win until breaking his maiden at Kembla in July.
He followed with another win at Hawkesbury and then came to town for a Benchmark 72 event over 1550m with Keagan Latham to ride and duly scored by more than a length.
With three wins and four placings from 10 starts and prizemoney topping $130,000, Pierro Lad has already recouped costs for his owners as he was a $105,000 Magic Millions purchase for Triple Crown Syndications from Yarraman Park.
Pierro Lad does not lack for pedigree as he is a three-quarter brother-in-blood to dual Group I winner Shadow Hero, who was also by Pierro and won the ATC Spring Champion Stakes and Randwick Guineas.
He is the first foal for his dam Lady Grazier, a placed Not a Single Doubt daughter of Group III winner Sookie tracing directly back to Champion 2YO Filly Victory Vein.
Lady Grazier has already foaled this spring producing a filly by exciting young Coolmore sire Storm Boy.
Pierro Lad was one of the final winners last season for Pierro and has now already put two wins on the board in the first month of the new season.
Remarkably good value this spring at a fee of just $22,000, Pierro sired 115 winners of $9.6million last season putting him in the Top 20 Australian Sires by winners and earnings.
