New SW for Pierro – Royal Law Wins Kalgoorlie Cup

Tara Madgwick - Sunday Oct 4

The $150,000 Listed Kalgoorlie Cup (2300m) delivered a new stakes-winner for Pierro when tough stayer Royal Law saluted on Saturday.

Trained by Ashley Maley  and ridden by Natasha Faithfull, Royal Law was second in the Kalgoorlie Cup last year and returned to go one better this time around.

He swept to the lead after turning for home and then hung on to score a head win over late challenger Sowar, but connections had to wait on a protest from the runner up to be dismissed before celebrating their victory.

Royal Law has the overall record of six wins and 10 placings from 25 starts with prizemoney just shy of $430,000.

Bred by Bob and Sandra Peters, Royal Law was offered through Inglis Digital as a tried horse in the 2024 June (Early) Online Sale where his trainer and now co-owner Ashley Maley bought him for $12,000.

He is the best of two winners from stakes-winning Redoute’s Choice mare Royal Star, a sibling to Group II winners Star Exhibit and Perfect Jewel from stakes-winner Star Encounter.

Royal Star is based in New Zealand for the Peters family and has a 2YO and yearling colt by Ocean Park and was covered by him again last spring.

Pierro, great value at a fee of $22,000.

Royal Law is the 43rd stakes-winner for Pierro, who is great value this spring at Coolmore at a fee of $22,000.
