The latest in a long line of Inglis Digital success stories is three year old filly Profit Motive, who became a stakes winner at just her third lifetime start when taking out the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on Melbourne Cup day.

The daughter of Capitalist was purchased for a mere $20,000 through Inglis Digital as a yearling by trainer Mitchell Pateman when offered by Sledmere Stud ( as agent) in February 2025, but from the moment she started work in his stable the trainer knew he had a good one on his hands.
Profit Motive is half owned by Pateman’s long time supporter Robbie Logie in partnership with the trainer and other stable clients.
After a promising fourth at Belmont on debut in July, the big filly was spelled.
Profit Motive then bolted in by more than four lengths at her first three year old start in October, and Pateman started fielding calls from eastern states buyers.
The phone will be ringing hot now, after the exciting filly revealed herself as a likely star of the upcoming Pinnacles carnival when she repeated the dose as hot favourite against a quality field in the Burgess Queen.
Rated perfectly by Holly Watson, the filly led all the way and on turning for home she simply streaked away from them.
In a different class, Profit Motive went to the line untouched and destroyed her opposition by three lengths with the handbrake on over Treasured Legacy ( Ole Kirk) and Ruthless Angel (Bondi) filled the placings.
A star in the making ?? Profit Motive destroys her rivals with an effortless all-the-way win in the $125,000 Burgess Queen Stakes. The Pinnacles awaits, and she looks ready to make her mark. https://t.co/bw8slFwAXu

The imposing Profit Motive is a monster of a filly with an engine to match. Her record now stands at 3-2-0 for $83,175 in prize money.
“She's learned so much in her last two starts” said the trainer.
“When we sat her handy in a trial she didn't trial as well as I thought she would, so we reverted back to riding her quiet, but that was a different beast today!
“She's a bloody good horse. Robbie's been with me since day one, he's been my biggest supporter, he owns half of this horse. He's had a stack in between her and now, so it's really good for him to have another good one.
“We’ll see how she pulls up before deciding about The Champion Fillies or the WA Guineas against the boys. I wouldn't be too scared about taking them on.”
Holly Watson jumped off Profit Motive with a big smile on her face.
“The plan wasn't to lead today. I don't know what happened out of the barriers, she got a bit of a bump or something and it fired her up. She probably was overdoing it a fraction underneath me, but when we got to the corner and I asked her to shift gears - she's got a wicked turn of foot!”
“She's been showing us at home that she's definitely above average. I think it's pretty cool that she could win like that off that sort of speed, I just slapped her on the shoulder!”

Bred by Rifa Mustang Pty Ltd, Profit Motive is the second foal and second winner from the stakes placed Maqsad ( Not A Single Doubt)
Maqsad was the best of four winners from her placed dam Moojeh by More Than Ready, a half sister to the champion and 6 x G1 winner Grand Armee, out of the G1 placed Marauding daughter Tambour.
There are plenty more stakes winning relations under Profit Motive’s first four dams, including the mighty Anamoe! His G1 winning dam Anamato is a daughter of Profit Motive’s fourth dam Voltage (Whiskey Road).
Stakes winners Drum, Mearas, Dealer Principal, Genius And Evil (Absolute Champion HK), Port Watch, Chetwood, Dissolved, Roanoke Boy, Sedanzer, Broadband, Anamba, Tiz Invincible and NZ Champion 2YO Yourdeel are all close relations of Profit Motive.

Profit Motive is bred
4f x 4m to Danehill, and sex balanced to his sire Danzig.
Her family ( Manto) is also that of Capitalist's sire Written Tycoon, both damlines tracing to Amorelle (family 18)
Her pedigree features sex balanced lines of Halo, Biscay and My Babu and duplication of Blue Hens Flower Bowl, Almahmoud, Tedmelia ( through Bold Aussie carried by Capitalist and his relation Snippets) and La Troienne (ancestress of Try My Best, More Than Ready, Woodman, Buckpasser, Hitting Away, Mr Busher, Bimelech)
The Ascot- based Pateman is WA's best trainer at the moment, leading both metropolitan and overall premierships, and will head into the upcoming carnival with an exciting team of horses including recent Max Simmonds Stakes winner Big Red Zoom (Long Leaf) and untapped sprinter Bassett Hound ( Wootton Bassett), but all eyes will be on Profit Motive, a big filly with big X factor!
Profit Motive is the 32nd stakes winner for Golden Slipper hero Capitalist, who also sired the G2 ATC Roman Consul winner Hidden Motive from a Not A Single Doubt Mare.
With sons Profiteer and Captivant established as sires and G1 winning son Reserve Bank now standing at Evergreen Stud, Capitalist continues his contribution to the Written Tycoon dynasty.
Capitalist stands at Newgate Farm on a fee of $44,000.
